Counselling Experience
Maryam is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and is Board Certified by BCIA for Neurofeedback. She is certified in Family Mediation from the Justice Institute of BC and is also a certified Parenting Workshop Facilitator. She works from an attachments perspective when working with individuals, couples and families. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, sensorimotor, and mindfulness therapies, she works with clients dealing with grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, personality disorders and addiction. The ultimate goal is to work cooperatively to help clients develop strategies to deal with obstacles inviting more fulfilment in their lives. Maryam is also a member of Psychology Today.
Additionally, Maryam is certified in Couples Therapy by the Gottman Institute in Seattle – an approach focused on repairing the relationships within the family. The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy in conflicting situations, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.
