Feeling Unbalanced or Overwhelmed due to Menopause?

Menopause can significantly impact your quality of life, leaving you feeling unbalanced, overwhelmed, and unable to function at your best. If you're struggling with the emotional and physical symptoms of menopause, you're not alone.

Understanding the Science of Menopause:

Menopause is a natural biological process that marks the end of a woman's reproductive years. Hormonal fluctuations during this transition can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and cognitive changes.

What does Menopause feel like for you?

  • Hot flashes:

"I experience sudden surges of intense heat."

  • Night sweats:

"I wake up drenched in sweat during the night."

  • Mood swings:

"I feel irritable, anxious, or depressed."

  • Sleep disturbances:

"I have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep."

  • Cognitive changes:

"I experience brain fog, forgetfulness, and difficulty concentrating."

  • Vaginal dryness:

"I experience discomfort during intercourse."

  • Loss of libido:

"I have decreased interest in sex."

Menopause — Frequently Asked Questions

Menopause and perimenopause can bring a significant range of psychological symptoms alongside the physical ones — anxiety (often new or worsened), depression, irritability, mood instability, difficulty concentrating, sleep disruption, and a shifting sense of identity or purpose. These symptoms are real, they're physiological in origin, and they're highly responsive to both counselling and in some cases neurofeedback.
Yes — and you're far from alone. The hormonal shifts of perimenopause and menopause have direct effects on neurotransmitter systems including serotonin and GABA, which regulate mood and anxiety. Many women who have never had mental health difficulties before experience significant psychological symptoms during this transition. That doesn't mean something is permanently wrong — it means your brain and nervous system are adapting to a major change, and support helps.
Your GP is an important partner — particularly for assessing HRT and other medical approaches. Counselling addresses the psychological and emotional layer that medication doesn't always reach — the anxiety, the identity questions, the relationship changes, the grief that can accompany this life transition, and the practical tools for managing mood, sleep, and stress. The two work best together.
Neurofeedback can be effective for sleep disruption, anxiety, and mood dysregulation — all common menopause symptoms. It works by directly training the brain's electrical activity toward more regulated patterns. It's available at MasterMind as an adjunct to counselling — learn more here.
