Individual Counselling — Frequently Asked Questions

If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply aware that something in your life isn't working the way you'd like, individual counselling can help. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit — many people come to counselling during life transitions, relationship difficulties, or when they want to understand themselves better. A free 15-minute consultation with one of our counsellors is a good starting point with no commitment required.
Our session rates are listed on our rates page. Direct billing is available through eight insurance providers including Pacific Blue Cross, Sun Life, Canada Life, GreenShield, Medavie Blue Cross, ICBC, CVAP, and BC Autism Funding — meaning many clients pay little or nothing out of pocket. A lower-cost counselling option is also available through our supervised intern program.
Your first session is primarily a chance for your counsellor to understand what's brought you in and what you're hoping to work on. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. By the end of the session you'll have a sense of whether the fit feels right and what working together might look like going forward.
Yes. We offer secure video counselling for BC residents and, in some cases, across Canada. Many clients find video sessions just as effective as in-person sessions and appreciate the flexibility. Sessions are conducted on a PIPEDA-compliant platform. You can also switch between in-person and video depending on your schedule.
