Mindfulness Therapy

Mindfulness therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps you develop mindfulness, a state of being present and fully engaged in the moment. By cultivating mindfulness, you can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, and improve your overall well-being.

Through mindfulness therapy, you can learn to:

  • Pay attention to the present moment: Focus on the here and now, rather than worrying about the past or future.
  • Practice acceptance: Accept your thoughts and feelings without judgment.
  • Reduce stress and anxiety: Develop effective coping mechanisms to manage stress and anxiety.
  • Improve emotional regulation: Regulate your emotions and respond to challenges with greater ease.
  • Enhance self-awareness: Gain a deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Our experienced therapists will guide you through mindfulness techniques, such as meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises, to help you cultivate a more mindful and fulfilling life.

Many clients pay little or nothing out of pocket — we direct bill Pacific Blue Cross, SunLife, Telus Health / Canada Life, GreenShield, and more. See all insurance & funding options → Direct billing available

Mindfulness Therapy — Frequently Asked Questions

Mindfulness therapy involves developing the capacity to observe your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations with curiosity rather than judgment. In a counselling context it's rarely practised in isolation — it's woven into evidence-based frameworks like Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and used alongside other modalities to help clients develop a different relationship with difficult internal experiences rather than being controlled by them.
No. While mindfulness has roots in Buddhist tradition, mindfulness-based therapy as practised in clinical settings is secular and evidence-based. You don't need any prior experience with meditation and there's no spiritual component required. The practices are practical and often quite brief — many can be used during everyday activities.
Mindfulness-based approaches have strong research support for depression (particularly preventing relapse), anxiety, chronic stress, chronic pain, and emotional dysregulation. They're also commonly used to support clients through burnout, life transitions, and building general psychological resilience.
Our counsellors integrate mindfulness practices into sessions as one tool among many rather than as a standalone treatment. It's often combined with CBT, somatic approaches, or EMDR depending on what you're working on. If mindfulness feels like a good fit for you, your counsellor will introduce practices gradually and adapt them to what works for your nervous system and lifestyle.
