Benefits of Coaching - Addressing the "Unstuck" Points

Coaching can be the catalyst you need to:

Get Unstuck: Gain clarity on your goals, identify limiting beliefs, and develop strategies to overcome obstacles that are holding you back.

Find Motivation: Reconnect with your passion, discover new sources of inspiration, and develop a plan to reignite your drive.

Gain a New Perspective: Challenge your assumptions, explore different viewpoints, and unlock fresh insights to approach challenges with renewed creativity.

Reach Higher Targets: Set ambitious goals, develop a step-by-step action plan, and gain the support and accountability you need to achieve them.

Achieve Balance: Integrate your work and personal life in a way that supports your well-being and allows you to thrive in all areas.

Enhance Your Leadership: Develop your leadership skills, improve your communication, and build high-performing teams.

Optimize Your Performance: Learn strategies to manage stress, enhance focus, and achieve peak performance, both personally and professionally.

My approach to coaching is uniquely informed by my PhD research in Applied Psychophysiology. I understand the intricate connections between mind, body, and environment, and I use this knowledge to help you identify and address the root causes of challenges. By integrating a Biopsychosocial perspective, I consider the whole person – your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and social context – to create sustainable solutions for both business growth and personal well-being.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Counselling and Coaching?

Counselling primarily focuses on addressing mental health issues, emotional healing, and resolving past trauma or deep-seated psychological problems. It often involves exploring past experiences and understanding how they impact current functioning.

Coaching primarily focuses on helping clients achieve specific goals, improve performance, and enhance their overall well-being. It's future-oriented and action-oriented.

What is the difference between coaching and consulting or advising?

Consulting focuses on providing expert advice and solutions to specific business problems. Consultants are hired for their specialized knowledge and skills in a particular area (e.g., marketing, finance, operations). Advising focuses on offering guidance and recommendations based on experience and knowledge. Advisors provide insights and perspectives to help clients make informed decisions. In either of these situations, a consultant or advisor is largely telling you what to do.

Coaching is focused more on facilitating the client's self-discovery and growth to achieve their goals. Coaches empower clients to find their own solutions and develop their own strategies. We are learning and growing your skills together, and sometimes just cheerleading and encouraging you to find a new perspective or be brave enough to overcome inner saboteurs or obstacles.

In my work with you I am most concerned with helping you succeed and sometimes you might need me to wear any one of these three hats, although most clients find that real transformational change happens with coaching.

How does scheduling work?

Usually, we will book one session (1 hour) every two weeks to allow time for homework, which is standard practice in coaching, to be done. If you have more urgent needs, of course, we can design a more frequent schedule, but we will want to ensure that it is still effective. Some clients find coaching needs for specific tasks or problems last only a few months, whereas others incorporate it into a longer plan for a balanced life.

How much are the coaching sessions?

My rate is $150/hr (50 minute session). I consider a limited number of sliding scale discounts for those in need.

What are the types of clients you work with?

While I am open to working with clients across the lifespan, clients generally are either young teens/adults looking for help to define a path for their lives, career professionals or entrepreneurs looking for help with work and business challenges or career change, or those that are seeking help through a life event that does not involve a mental health issue (I would refer you to our wonderful counsellors for that).

What is your professional experience?

I have a long career in business in several diverse industries in the private and public sectors, working in union and non-union environments at various leadership levels, including supervisory, managerial, district, corporate, director, and even entrepreneurial. Coaching others toward their success was at the heart of my work in all of these positions. I have also been informed by specific and intensive industry-leading coaching through CTI's Co-Active Coach training program. I am further informed by my PhD research work in Applied Psychophysiology (study of mind-body connections) with a specialization in Optimal Performance.

Further to this formal experience, I am grateful to be a father to a wonderful daughter who is soon to graduate from her undergraduate program, and I am fully aware of her generation's unique challenges.
